Gente Del Mar - Branded Apparel Design
Gente Del Mar is a family owned business running a vacation rental in Cambutal, Panama. Their brand has a strong connection to the ocean, conservation and community hence the name “People Of The Sea” I developed a custom illustrated t-shirt graphic for one of their conservation initiatives relating to sea turtles.
The Brief
Gente Del Mar worked with me to create an original surf-inspired apparel design celebrating the connection between surf culture and marine life in Cambutal, Panamá. The project brief was to create a bold, playful, and timeless illustration featuring a surfer and sea turtle, paired with the message “Las Tortugas Son Amigas, No Comida.” The final scope included creative direction, a custom back illustration, front chest graphic, and production-ready artwork designed for screen printing.
Art Direction
To kick off the project we developed a moodboard and direction, by pairing visuals with descriptive illustration, color, and type style to match her vision with a visual references.
Sketching
Before completing the final piece, I started out by focusing primarily on the illustration and composition. I landed on the below final sketch which then was simplified slightly and customized to work with the typography and colors.

The final piece was designed to go on a dark charcoal or black colored shirt as shown below.
